I've been doing a good amount of reading as of late and I've been learning a lot, but I put all that down and started reading something for fun. I'm reading Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind. The television show The Legend of The Seeker is based on this series of books. It's called The Sword of Truth series. The premise is that an "ordinary" guy becomes extraordinary. He is put on a quest to defeat an evil man who is trying to take over the world. He is accompanied by his good friend, a really OLD wizard and a new female friend, a walking lie detector. He is given a sword, the Sword of Truth, which imparts the power to give him extra strength.
So, why tell you all this? I sorta remember why I like these kind of stories. Everyone wants to be a superhero. Everyone wants to save the day and defeat the enemy. Everyone. I know that I do. Now, I've been told that I'm a hero before. I'm in the military and protect the freedom of the citizens of the USA, willing to make that ultimate sacrifice. Maybe that is why I joined the military, to have an almost guaranteed chance at being a hero. But in the end it rings hollow. I can't fly. I can't shoot lasers out of my eyes or move lightning quick. I am an ordinary guy. (yes, I know I am tall)
So when is the wizard going to give me the sword and accompany me and my lady lie detector on our quest to defeat the bad guy? I guess as soon as I get back into this book.
